First let me say that MPEG2 Works is fantastic!!!

But now to my questions. How long should it take to encode an .avi file? I had one file that took about half an hour and another that took about 8 hours!!! Is this a normal discrepancy, or is something probably wrong?

Second, some of the .avi files seem to work just fine, with others I have real problems in spite of the fact that they work with QT. Could this be because I need the MPEG-2 QT component, even though I have Perian?

Thanks, and by the way, I am having a great time with MPEG2 Works!!

The speed of encoding depends on various things, mainly on speed of your Mac and format of the input file...The average encoding time on intel core 2 duo Mac's is real time - e.g. 1 hour movie encodes for an hour...

AVI is not a format, but the wrapper for various formats which can be included within it... Sometimes something wont work at all for some unknown reason and most of the times everything works just fine...How long was that movie which took 8 hours to encode? Also, you sad you are having some real problems with some .avi files..hat are those problems exactly?

If encoding works you probably already have MPEG2 Component installed, so that should not be the problem..Also all files which you can open and play in QuickTime should work just fine with my app..

The files I am having problems with are .avi movie files, downloaded from the Internet. I have tried 6 files, two I had no problem with at all, but all the others have been problems. All work fine in QT, but when I run the OneClick encoding it takes so long, I eventually have to quit, or the programme freezes the computer. One I actually let run overnight, and it never completed the encoding.

I think I should mention that I am not using an Intel Mac. I have a 1.5Ghz G4 Mac, 1.5Gb RAM, and running OS 10.4.11.

Oh, none of the movies have been longer than 2hrs 15mins, I forgot to mention that - sorry!

I do hope you can help.

Navigate to PAL or NTSC section, check "Watch in Terminal" checkbox ON and start the encoding with one of the preset buttons, no matter which one, for one of the files which makes troubles..Terminal window should open and encoding should start..Let it work for around 10 minutes and then Copy and paste text from Terminal window and send it to support email...I'll see whats goin on...

Terminal is running and seems to be going quite well. Unfortunately I have to be out tonight, so I will have to send it to you tomorrow, if that's alright with you.
